Bookclub

When I moved to Honkers a group of gals got together and formed a bookclub. We have been meeting once a month now for almost 2 years!! Each month someone nominates a book which we all read and then discuss over dinner - I would say over a glass of wine (and it would be correct for some of us) however as the majority of the gals are now 'with child', we tend to drink more lime soda and tea than vino these days. How times are a changin'
Anyhow, this months book was 'Gweilo: A memoir of a Hong Kong childhood' by Martin Booth. We usually try to pick a restaurant that reflects the theme of the book, and so this month we were lucky enough to be able to call on friends in high places (thanks Rams and Michelle) and sneak into The China Club (Dad, you will be jealous)!!

The China Club is an amazing club located in the old Bank of China building in Central. David Tang, the creator of Shanghai Tang, has decked the place out in his fine furnishings and added a touch of style and sophistication to make it one of the most beautiful dining rooms I have ever had the pleasure of entering. As you can tell I always love going there (although because it is members only, I dont often get the chance)!!

Now you can understand why, despite the flu, I just couldn't miss bookclub - oh, not to mention the fabulous company of the gals - Jo, Bree, Danielle, Michelle, Hanna, Alex and Hollie. And I musn't forget this months honorary member Helen, who was unable to attend with good reason - she was due to give birth to her little bub on Monday (Good luck Helen)!!
... did I mention, the book was a great read enjoyed by all.

Care packages...

Ok, poor me - I have the flu!! Will politely shared it with me (but ofcourse my strain is much worse - or he is just much tougher than I am). I have had 2 days off work and still feel like I have been run over by a truck!! Managed to sneak out to bookclub last night (more to follow...) but I am now paying for it big time. I need my mummy!!

This is ofcourse just a sympathy ploy to all my caring friends and family out there who might feel spurred on to send me a care package :-)

Fingers crossed I make a full recovery before our trip this weekend!! I will keep you posted...

The downside of living abroad...

Last Saturday Will's cousin Janice got married!! We were VERY sad not to be there to share in their special day but it looks as though they had a great day. Doesn't Janice look beautiful (and Tim didn't scrub up too bad either)!!! We wish them all the happiness in the world.

Champagne Brunch

Last Sunday we did what all respectable Hong Kongers do on a Sunday and partook in a Champagne Brunch at the Intercon. The company was spectacular, the food was amazing, the views astounding, but best of all unlimited MOET!! Cheers...

By the way...

Here are some pics of our little town

2007 wrap up

A bit of backtracking...

Just thought we would back track a little and let you know what we have been up to this year (if we can remember)!!!
We spent Christmas back in Oz which was great...

Brooke started her new job at Pinsent Masons in Jan...
Brooke took a trip home in Jan/Feb (?) to visit her pop who had some probs with his ticker (thankfully he is ok now - good on ya pop)...

We had the Rugby Sevens in April

You guessed it, everyone dresses up in ridiculous costumes and gets stupidly drunk...
We went to Cambodia for Easter - Siem Reap and Phnom Penh

In May we went to Beijing. I had to work there for a week and Will joined me for the weekend. We visited the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and lots more. We were suprised at how much we liked and enjoyed Beijing - it is an exciting city with soo much to offer and soo many places to explore.

In June Will turned another year older. We celebrated by going on a helicopter ride around HK, having a gorgeous Sichuan dinner at Hutong, and lunch with friends at The Pickled Pelican.

Well that sees the major highights covered. And of course, we are off to Guilin this weekend (but you already know that!!)

Guilin & Yangshuo

This weekend we are off to Guilin & Yangshuo, in Southern China. For those of you that have seen the movie 'The Painted Veil' (recently out) it was shot here. The scenary is meant to be AMAZING so we can't wait!!

Welcome

Welcome to our blog!!

Will and I thought it was about time that we created a blog so that we could keep you all informed with what's happening with the Holdens in Honkers. Time passes by so quickly and before we know it another year has passed. Hopefully this way you can access our blog any time and check out what we are up to.

We promise to try our best to keep it up to date!!
